The conflicting situations that are the starting point of my work are communicated using different media, mainly photographs, videos and objects. I use these elements so as to create discrete levels or planes behind or in front of the pictorial surface. The aim is to infuse the image with depth, liveliness and three-dimensionality so as to make it seem more real both to me and its eventual viewers; another aim is that it would enable me to share the original conflicting situations with the viewer. My term for the final works installed in a gallery or some other venue is ‘situation sculpture’.

The band You/Me was formed in 2005 by the visual artist and musician Marjatta Oja (vocals and guitar) and musician Asko Keränen (vocals, guitar, synth, electronix). In 2008, visual artist Oliver Whitehead joined the band with his live-video projections.

Asko (of 22-Pistepirkko) and Marjatta play and sing through a range of songs, all composed and by the band, are infused with soft electronica and pulsating rhythmic pieces which are tightly integrated with the live-video projections.

You/Me consider themselves as an experimental band embracing sound, singing, voice, live-video projection of moving and still images. They have performed in, art galleries, cinemas, clubs and other special places in Finland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium and France.
